Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026 · The Way
ChatJC is built by The Way. We take your privacy seriously — especially because the conversations you have here can be deeply personal. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
1. What we collect
If you use ChatJC without an account
- Your messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate JC's responses.
- Your conversation history is stored in your browser's localStorage. We don't store it on our servers.
- Basic error and performance telemetry is sent to Sentry (anonymous — no email, no session identifiers).
If you create an account
- Your email address and a hashed password, stored in Supabase.
- Your display name and profile preferences, if you set them.
- Error telemetry associated with your account, via Sentry.
If you subscribe to Faithful
- Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe provides us with a customer ID, subscription status, and invoice history.
- If you opt in to cloud-synced conversation history, your chats are stored in Supabase (encrypted at rest). You can disable sync or delete chats at any time.
2. How we use it
- To generate JC's responses (Anthropic).
- To keep you signed in and remember your preferences (Supabase).
- To process your subscription (Stripe).
- To diagnose bugs and improve the service (Sentry).
- To email you about your account, billing, or critical updates (Resend).
We do not use your conversations to train any AI model. We do not sell your data. We do not run third-party advertising or tracking pixels. Ever.
3. Who we share it with
We use a small set of trusted service providers:
- Anthropic— processes your messages to generate JC's responses.
- Supabase— stores account data and (optionally) conversation history.
- Stripe— processes payments for Faithful subscriptions.
- Sentry— receives error and performance data.
- Resend— sends account and billing emails.
- ImprovMX — forwards email sent to our @chatjc.com address to our team inbox.
- Vercel— hosts the service.
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We share only what's necessary for the service to function.
We will never share your conversation content with anyone else unless required by law, or unless you explicitly share a conversation via our share feature.
4. Your rights
You can:
- Access your data— download all your conversations and account data as JSON via Settings → Data Controls.
- Correct your data— update your profile anytime in Settings.
- Delete your data— delete individual chats, or permanently delete your account and all associated data, via Settings → Data Controls.
- Export your data— same as access, via JSON export.
- Object or restrict— email us to request limits on how we process your data.
If you're in the EU, UK, or EEA, these rights are protected under GDPR Articles 15–22. If you're in Australia, they're protected under Australian Privacy Principles 12 and 13. If you're in California, they're protected under the CCPA/CPRA. Regardless of where you live, we apply the same standard.
5. Crisis conversations
If you talk to JC about a crisis — suicidal thoughts, self-harm, abuse, or similar — those conversations are stored the same way as any other conversation. They are not flagged, escalated, or reviewed by a human unless you explicitly share them or contact us about them. If you want a crisis conversation removed, you can delete it at any time, or contact us and we'll remove it for you.
ChatJC is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, please reach out to the resources JC surfaces in-chat, or contact local emergency services.
6. Data retention
- Free tier conversationslive in your browser's localStorage. They persist until you clear your browser data or delete them.
- Account data is kept as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we remove your data from our active systems within 30 days. Some records (billing, abuse prevention) may be retained for up to 7 years as required by Australian tax and consumer law.
- Sentry telemetry is retained for 90 days, then deleted.
- Stripe retains payment records according to their own policy and financial regulations.
7. Cookies
We use only the cookies necessary to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
8. Children
ChatJC is not intended for anyone under the age of 16. If you are under 16, please do not use the service. If we discover that we've collected data from someone under 16, we'll delete it.
To subscribe to Faithful, you must be at least 18 years old, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian who is responsible for the payment.
9. Changes
We'll update this policy as ChatJC evolves. Material changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. If the changes affect your rights, we'll notify you by email if you have an account.
10. Contact
If you have questions about this policy, or want to exercise any of the rights listed above, email us at hello@chatjc.com.
